An ambitious hotel project is being realised in the tranquil district of Gonten: the Appenzeller Huus, previously consisting of the two buildings Huus Bären and Huus Löwen, is being expanded to include a new wellness resort. With a 2,200 m² spa area and the largest wine cellar in Switzerland, the Huus Quell is sure to make history. Even before its opening, the 5-star superior hotel was accepted as a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Appia has been commissioned as the hotel furnisher for this project and is responsible for the FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment) of the 30 rooms as well as part of the public areas.
A finely tuned mix of natural materials and strikingly colourful textiles welcomes hotel guests as they enter their rooms. The walls, constructed using traditional timber knitting techniques, in which wooden beams are stacked horizontally on top of each other, lend the rooms their Appenzell flair. The wood used is fine Swiss moon wood, which is renowned for its special quality, durability and resilience. The interior design was created according to the Feng Shui colour concept. Magnificent floral motifs adorn the room from the headboard to the ceiling. Wooden frames are covered with fine fabrics by renowned Swiss designer Jakob Schlaepfer to create this special decorative feature. The curtains also come from his Swiss textile company, which is known for its high-quality embroidery and artistic patterns.
Appia has stood for the highest quality carpentry for over 20 years. It goes without saying that the furniture is not off the shelf, but masterpieces of precise craftsmanship. The elaborate production requires absolute precision, especially for the elegantly rounded sideboards, minibars and desks. The Appia team can demonstrate all its skills in furniture production here. Combined with elegant stone surfaces and fine leather, the result is a luxurious ambience.
An impressive work of wood art immediately catches the eye upon entering the lobby: an imposing sculpture in the shape of a tree, whose widely branching limbs extend organically into the room. This extraordinary construction was devised in Appia’s CAD department. Each branch is fitted with a discreetly integrated LED strip that bathes the tree in atmospheric light. Directly in front of it is the reception desk – an old tree trunk artfully staged on a bronze-coloured pedestal. The back of the monumental tree sculpture is adorned with a lush plant wall that creates a fresh, natural atmosphere. With cosy seating areas and decorative lighting, Appia has created a sophisticated atmosphere in the ‘Huus Quell’.
The four design elements of mountains, lakes, forest and stone serve as inspiration for the 2,200 m² spa area. In a harmonious blend of nature and architecture, various wellness zones have been created that offer relaxation at the highest level. In the basement and outdoor area, saunas, steam baths and relaxation areas invite you to unwind. Another highlight is located on the top floor: the exclusive rooftop pool, which offers breathtaking views of the mountains. On the ground floor, treatment rooms for individual spa experiences are equipped by Appia. The custom-made furniture, including kitchenettes, washbasins, built-in cupboards and benches, comes from Appia’s furniture production.
