After a three-year break, the legendary hotel »Das Triest« is celebrating its comeback – with a comprehensive redesign. 50 rooms have been soft renovated, 70 rooms have been completely refurbished and the public areas are also shining in new splendor. The aim of the revitalization was to harmonize the history of the hotel with modern elements. To this end, the new hotel operator Radisson created a chic interior design and commissioned Appia with the extensive renovation work.
A hotel with history
The hotel looks back on a historically significant past. Once an important hub for stagecoach traffic between Vienna and Trieste, the building is now a luxurious design hotel with over 20 years of success. Celebrities such as Whitney Houston, Johnny Depp, Robbie Williams and Lady Gaga have already been among the guests. Following the takeover by the Radisson Group, »Das Triest« is now managed under the upper upscale Radisson Blu brand. As part of this, the hotel has been given a new design that bears the Radisson signature and preserves the hotel’s historic identity. The lobby impresses with rich colors, elegant surfaces and artfully staged plays of light through mirrored ceiling elements. Appia was responsible for the interior fit-out and furnishing of the public areas in this project. Built-in furniture such as benches, sideboards and the reception desk were made to measure by the Appia team. Despite the modernization, some iconic elements were preserved: for example, the furnishings of the Apothecary Bar were retained and carefully restored by Appia. The hotel’s impressive art collection also found its place in the new design concept and was complemented by further works of art and black and white photographs of the cities of Vienna and Trieste.
Mediterranean charm
The close connection to the northern Italian port city of Trieste is reflected in many ways in the hotel: a maritime-inspired interior design with original details such as portholes on the doors lends the rooms a Mediterranean charm. The dining areas also exude Italian flair. As the name »La Terazza« suggests, Italian specialties are served in the leafy inner courtyard and the adjoining restaurant. These areas were also furnished by the Appia team according to Radisson designs. And last but not least, the famous “Silver Bar” in the lobby has also been renovated.
120 hotel rooms and suites in a radiant new design
In the 120 hotel rooms and suites of the 4-star hotel, guests can expect first-class comfort. The 70 completely renovated rooms impress with an elegant color palette of elegant red and green tones, enhanced by golden accents. Gently curved shapes on the bed headboards and desks lend the furnishings a timeless aesthetic. The custom-made furniture – including milled TV panels, desks and closets – comes from the in-house Appia furniture manufactory. In order to work out every detail precisely before the final planning was finalized by Radisson, Appia first furnished a sample room in the new design. The 50 soft-renovated rooms were also given an upgrade: new fabrics, lighting and furniture create a fresh, contemporary ambience.
