Restaurant guests at Uferpark 57 in Überlingen on Lake Constance, can expect a gastronomic experience of a special kind. The restaurant offers space for 90 guests as well as a spacious terrace with a breathtaking lake view, a kiosk, and a beach bar. Appia’s interior design concept skilfully picks up on the “underwater world” theme in all its facets. On a virtual aquarium in the bar counter, visitors can watch colourful fish swimming in an endless loop. The shapes of the lights above the tables are reminiscent of water drops, air bubbles or are designed as fish with bulb eyes.
In a separable area at the back of the restaurant, called “Nautilus,” restaurant guests enjoy food and drinks in a replica submarine. A look through the portholes again shows the virtual underwater world. The submarine construction made of wood and steel was manufactured in the Appia’s carpenter shop – as were all the bistro tables, sideboards and the counter as the centerpiece of the restaurant. Since the client’s wish for a real aquarium was difficult to realize due to the high cleaning and feeding effort, Appia was able to convince with the proposal to integrate a “digital aquarium” into the counter. High-resolution LED screens show sea creatures swimming through the water in gentle movements.
In addition to the interior design, Appia were also responsible for the FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment) section and selected all seating, curtains, and lighting for the restaurant in consultation with the client.
